OUR MISSION

WHAT WE DO

OUR HISTORY

The Lutheran High School World Mission Team was started in 2008 and has sponsored a summer servant adventure every year since.  Mitzi Loughmiller and Joseph Taylor have led three missions to Camp Penuel in Costa Rica (2008, ‘09, ‘12).  The team also served with Camp Lutherhaven’s “Champ Camp” in Idaho (2010, ‘11, ‘13), and the original Camp Penuel in Missouri (2014).  One of our goals is to alternate between supporting national and international ministries.

Every year, through  the generous donations of our community, God has provided for all of the financial needs of our team.  Students pay a minimal deposit ($50-150), and are responsible for covering the costs of any legal documents (passport, notary fees, etc), and any personal expenses (souvenirs, snacks, etc).  For all seven mission trips thus far, the team has raised the rest of the money through a variety of fundraisers.

Also, every year, our students are changed.  They get to see the Gospel in action.  They work with people who must overcome the tremendous challenges of poverty and/or a variety of disabilities. They meet new people, are exposed to new cultures and places, and learn to work as a team.  A recent graduate, after serving with the team, was inspired to enter into full time ministry and currently works with Camp Lutherhaven year round.  Parents are always impressed by the changes in their child when they return from their time of service.
